One hot summer day a group of people stopped by to show me a "Jack Russell Terrier" puppy that they had for sale. She was in such deplorable condition covered in fleas like I had never seen before. Having some dog experience I knew immediately that this poor little skinny puppy was not a JRT. My heart broke for this little one so I offered to buy the puppy just to help her get in a better space. The people accepted my offer, I proceeded to give them a lecture on flea infestation and took the little pup down to the barn for a series of flea baths. She was a tiny, erect ear, bi-colored puppy with a full curl tail. My best guess at the time was that she was a JRT/Chi mix with a little basenji as she did not bark at all and has that lovely tail.
When my companion arrived home he mentioned
to me that she looked like a "rat terrier". A breed of dog he had
when he was a kid many years ago. As little "Minnie" started to flourish
in our home I watched in amazement how quickly she learned and how well
she did with all our other animals. (GSD's, ABD, cats, horses and chickens)
Since I never heard of the breed I started to research on the internet.
It didn't take long I was hooked.
